Life & Love, The Geriatric Mommy

Our Biggest Adventure is Beginning

Originally I was going to write this post as more of a diary, but it was getting really long, so I’m keeping that part to myself! It has been a while since I’ve written anything that wasn’t work-related. Part of that is just sheer exhaustion and I can only muster up the energy to do work. The other part is just anticipation of sharing our big new adventure!

I started writing this post on May 21, 2018. This was the day after I found out we are pregnant! Since then, we had to decide between a Maternity Doctor or Midwife and went with a Midwife. We had our first ultrasound, and have now heard the heartbeat at just 9 1/2 weeks! It is the most incredible sound I’ve ever heard, and enforced the fact that indeed, I do have a life living inside of me!

Announcing the news to our family was really exciting. Everyone is thrilled and it makes it so much more exciting for us knowing we have the full support of our families.

Symptoms-wise, I’ve been pretty lucky. I was mostly hit with extreme exhaustion, but very little nausea. I had some pretty strong mood swings at first (Sorry, Beto), but those have seemed to fade since then. The exhaustion is starting to fade too, as I near the end of my first trimester.

We don’t know yet if we are having a boy or a girl, but we do plan to find out. We’ve got a few names shortlisted, but if you’ve got some ideas that translate well in Spanish and English, we’re open!

In just a week we’ll be heading off on our last vacation just the two of us! It’s a two-part trip now: first to see one of my oldest friends get married, and second, it’s our unofficial babymoon! Spain, here we come!

This has been one of the most insane adventures of my life thus far. Even though not a lot seems to be happening, growing a baby is hard work! I’m looking forward to the energy boost I hear so much about, let me tell you!

I can’t wait to share our adventures around Spain this summer and through the remainder of this pregnancy. It’s going to be one of my favourite adventures, and it will be our baby’s first! Strap in, babe, you’re in for a wild ride! Between your big Canadian family and your enormous Mexican family, you’re in for a world full of love, laughter, and wonderful adventures.

So that is the news! We’re so grateful for this gift and can’t wait for you to meet our little one!

That’s all for now!
